Surface filters are used widely because of their excellent collection performance and their adaptability to the most diverse conditions. Furthermore, significant advances have been made in the development of new filter media. Experimental investigations on surface filtration are often performed on laboratory filter test rigs using test filters. This paper describes and discusses starting points for methodical approaches to experimental investigations on surface filtration using flexible filter media on an established standard laboratory filter test rig intending to make a quantitative, conclusive comparison of experimental data possible or easier.
