Preparation of a Langmuir Monolayer of CoFe2O4 Nanoparticles at the Air/Water Interface

Highly crystalline and monodisperse CoFe2O4 nanocrystallites were synthesized. Their particle size was 9.5 nm with a standard deviation of 1.3 nm. A Langmuir monolayer of the surface-coated CoFe2O4 nanocrystallites was formed at the air/water interface, and its stability was studied using a pressure-area isotherm curve and Brewster angle microscopy (BAM) images. A transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image of the Langmuir-Blodgett film demonstrated that a monolayer of CoFe2O4 nanocrystallites had formed with almost no multilayer upon it.
