원료 Cumene
생산물 phenol
적용 To produce phenol and acetone by the oxidation of cumene to cumene hydroperxide (CHP) and subsequent cleavage of CHP. Both products are superior in quality and suitable for various uses. The process is also characterized by its high product yield and low utility consumption. This is derived from its highly effective reaction system, coupled with an efficient phenol purificatuin system unique to the Mitsui process.
설명 Description: Cumene is oxidized to CHP by liquid phase autoxidation reaction (1) with air. Oxidation system, such as the number of reactors and reaction volume, can be optimized in view of cost minimization and better operability. The oxidation product is concentrated to 80% of CHP by vacuum distillation (2).
The concentrated CHP is transferred immediatedly to the cleavage reactor (3) where it is rearranged into phenol and acetone in the presence of a small amount of sulfuric acid. The reaction conditions are chosen to attain high conversion and to reduce undesirable sub-reaction. The clevage product is neutralized (4) with alkali before being transferred to purification (5-11).
The phenol purification system (8-11) is an improvement on the systems used in conventional processes. Highest-quality phenol can be manufactured with less steam consumption than is required for the lower grade production in the earlier plants.
Heat recocery of hot fluids is achieved by simple systems and low-pressure steam is utilized effectively. This feature is worthwhile when the process is combined with the cumene manufacturing process in which low-pressure steam is generated. Also, the reboiler fouling problem caused by salt deposits, long associated with the conventional process, has been eliminated by virtue of the method developed by Mitsui. All fuel oil byproduct is usable for the high-pressure boiler because of the low salt content.
Typical cumene requirement is 1.34 tons per unit ton of product phenol and 0.61 ton of acetone. Safety considerations, including careful handling of CHP and control of the reactions, are incorporated in the process. Substantial experience in commercial operation ensures a high degree of reliabililty and stability.
