Synthesis and characterization of the quasi-two-dimensional triangular antiferromagnets Ni1-xMxGa2S4 (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Zn)
Polycrystalline samples of Ni1-xMxGa2S4 (M = Mn, Fe, Co and Zn) have been synthesized by solid-state reaction. X-ray powder diffraction measurements indicate that these samples maintain the same trigonal structure as that of NiGa2S4 at least up to x = 0.1 for M = Mn, x = 1for Fe, x = 0.5 for Co and x = 0.3 for Zn, respectively. Single crystals of Ni1-xMxGa2S4 (M = Mn, Co and Zn) have been grown by chemical vapor transport method with using iodine as transporting agent. The structural analyses of both polycrystalline samples and single crystals consistently show that lattice constants a, c and V systematically change with x. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
