Crystal growth of Gd7-xYxPd3 intermetallics
Recently, the single crystals of the intermetallic compounds Gd7-xYxPd3 were grown by the Czochralski method from a levitated melt, They grew in a single hexagonal phase of the Th7Fe3 type with the ratio c/a = 0.63. Electronic structure, transport and magnetic properties of a Gd3Y4Pd3 crystal belonging to the series Gd7-xYxPd3 have been measured along the principal crystallographic directions. It was found that Gd3Y4Pd3 orders ferromagnetically at 197 K. All measured physical properties show a strong anisotropy. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
