Laser emission from dye-doped mesoporous silica fibers
The construction of microlasers has been facilitated by mesoporous silica fibers, which are well suited to accommodate optically functional dyes and thus can lead to specially designed composite systems. Construction of a microcavity around a dye-doped fiber leads to laser light emission. The emitted light shows a narrow system of uniformly spaced resonator modes and threshold behavior typical for laser operation (see Figure).
