A polyamide, where the amide functions are connected via rigid, non-aromatic units, which forms liquid-crystalline phases in concentrated sulfuric acid and is thus suitable for the preparation of fibers is reported. The synthesis has been made possible by a breakthrough in the ability to produce high molecular weight poly([1.1.1.]-propellane)s.
