An operator is introduced for characterizing of mass transfer processes. This operator contents the quantity - the mass or the substance amount in mol - and the quality - the spezific or molar exergy - of the stream or process. Rules for calculation with these operators can be defined for describing processes. Using these rules the energetic behaviour and the energetic structures of mass transfer processes can be discussed in a new way.
