AN EXAMPLE OF FIXED-BED REACTOR DESIGN FOR AN ELECTROCHEMICAL PROCESS OF VANADIUM OXIDATION IN WASHING SOLUTIONS
Washing solutions for carbon dioxide separation in the nitrogen industry may contain pentavalent vanadium, which, unfortunately, is reduced to the tetravalent form. An electrochemical reoxidation could be an alternative to the conventional oxidation by air. Based upon experimental studies and calculations, with the help of a mathematical fixed bed reactor model, a process quantification was carried out for a given oxidation capacity. Parameter studies allowed process conditions and cell design to be optimized. The results show, that the electroenergy costs are relatively low and are not a limiting factor in the processing.
