The Use of Amphiphilic Polyurethane Nanoparticles for Desorption of Phenanthrene from Aquifer Materials
E-mail:
Micelle-like Amphiphilic nano-sized polyurethane (APU) particles synthesized based on amphiphilic urethane acrylate nonionomers could solubilize phenanthrene within their hydrophobic interiors as the same way that surfactant micelles do in aqueous phase. At low concentration of APU or Triton X-100 (Below CMC of Triton X-100), APU aqueous pseudophase exhibited greater reduction of phenanthrene sorption on aquifer sand and higher extraction efficiency of sorbed phenanthrene than Triton X-100 aqueous pseudophase. At higher APU particle and Triton X-100 dose in aqueous solution, the extraction efficiency of APU aqueous solution is almost same as that of Triton X-100 aqueous solution, even though APU particles exhibited low solubilizing efficiency than Triton X-100 micelles in absence of aquifer soil. That's because APU particles have relatively low degree of sorption on aquifer sand, due to their chemically crosslinked structure. APU particles could be also recovered 100% through ultrafiltration process at greater pore size of separation membrane, which will make soil-washing process using APU particles more economical and useful in practical applications.
