To elucidate detailed mechanisms of lanthanide complex formation reactions and the structural features of the solvated plus-three cations, the kinetic studies of the complex formation reactions of lanthanide elements have been carried out for the past couple decades. The mechanisms proposed for the reactions in the literature are discussed.
