An examination has been made of single-electron transfer from a substrate molecule to the catalyst and the formation of a cation-radical as the first stage of alkene isomerization. Within the framework of this model, the stereospecificity of the reaction and the formation of cis-isomers as primary isomerization products are explained. as well as data on deuterated exchange.
