Radiation-induced grafting of acrylonitrile onto EPDM and BR blended with LDPE
EPDM and BR were blended with low density polyethylene (LDPE) in the ratio 1:1 and vulcanized with gamma radiation, then subjected to radiation graft copolymerization with acrytonitrile (AN), The parameters affecting graft yield such as inhibitor and monomer concentration, irradiation dose, and type of solvent were investigated. BR/LDPE is more susceptible towards graft copolymerization than an EPDM/ LDPE blend. Besides, the grafting of AN onto EPDM/LDPE improves its solvent resistance. The thermal properties of the blends obtained were characterized using DSC.
