Electronic control systems are an enabling technology that can enable improvements in the safety, efficiency, and reliability of new coiled-tubing (CT) equipment. Safety can be enhanced by reducing the crew size and placing them in a protected environment. Gains in efficiency are possible by automating small tasks during rig up and larger tasks when running a job. Reliability can be enhanced in the form of self-diagnostics and soft starts and stops of the equipment.
