Direct Incorporation of Carbon Dioxide to Polymer Using Phase Transfer Catalyst
This study is related to the investigation of the direct incorporation of CO2 to polymer using phase transfer catalysts. Quaternary ammonium salts showed good catalytic activity of CO2 fixation in the synthesis of poly(1,3-dioxolane-2-oxo-4-yl) methyl methacrylate by the direct incorporation of CO2 to poly(GMA). Among the salts tested, the ones with higher alkyl chain length and with more nucleophilic anion showed higher catalytic activity. The catalytic activity increased with temperature and DMF showed the highest activity. Kinetic studies at high pressure of CO2 were also investigated, and polymer-supported catalysts were used to facilitate the recovery of catalysts.
