Wood preservatives preventing biological corrosion and natural aging
New wood preservatives involving (4:1 or 8:1 by moles) mono (MEA), di or triethanolmine-CuCO3 center dot Cu(OH)(2), applied 0.5 or 1% (Cu wt. basis), quaternary ammonium salts, B compds., and triazole derivs., prevented the brown and white rot caused by Coniophora puteana and Trametes versicolor in Scots pine wood (Pinus silvestris) and beech wood (Fagus silvatica). On 480-hr. exposure to UV + H2O, the wood color fell to 25% of that of controls. Leaching did not affect the photodegradation-inhibiting effect of the preservatives FT-IR spectra confirmed the interactions between the Cu MEA and wood components' functional groups.
