The use of a strongly acidic macroporous Amberlyst 15 ion-exchange resin in the preparation of a diluted metasilicic acid sol solution
Ion exchange was run batchwise at 45 or 85 degrees C to yield clear stable sols contg. av, 4.32-6.46% SiO2 and having molar silica modulus of 70-90. A two-step resin recovery was developed, using first aq. 0.5% NaOH and then aq. 5% HCl. Step one eliminated entirely the silica deposited in resin pores.
