Magnetic convection in a cylindrical enclosure
Flow instabilities in the thermosiphon-like enclosure caused by the gravitational and magnetic fields are presented. The cylindrical enclosure was partially heated, partially cooled and filled with paramagnetic fluid. The influence of strong magnetic field on the convective motion in the presented geometry was studied. The temperature field (correlated with the fluid flow) was visualized in the cross-section between the heated and cooled parts of cylinder. Depending on the interaction between the gravitational buoyancy and magnetizing forces, the convective fluid motion was enhanced or induced.
