Disintegration of microorganisms in bead mills with multi-disk impellers
The results of investigations of residence time distribution and disintegration of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae in bead mills operating in a continuous mode are presented. The experimental set-up consisted of mills with multi-disk impellers: a classical one and another one with stable baffles between the disks. The variable parameters were: rotational speed of the impeller, flow rate and concentration of the cell suspension, In the description of liquid flow in the mills the model of a tank cascade was used. On the basis of variance sigma(theta)(2) analysis, the effect of variable parameters was determined. The continuous process was characterized basing on the cell disintegration kinetics in a batch system and residence time distribution.
