Polysaccharides have been widely used in many drug delivery and tissue engineering applications. However, conventional chemical cross-linking method may cause side effects such as toxicity. In this study, we propose to prepare polysaccharide-based hydrogels without using chemical cross-linking molecules. Combination of partially oxidized hyaluronate and glycol chitosan was able to form hydrogels by Schiff-base reaction, and this system was injectable by a syringe. Various characteristics of hyaluronate/glycol chitosan hydrogels will be presented. |
