제목 | Usage of oxygen containing lipid-shelled microbubbles for reversal of hypoxia |
초록 | Hypoxic conditions are a major cause of reduction in the efficacy of the chemotherapy and radiotherapy in cancer treatment. Oxygen supplied by the blood is insufficient for the cancerous tissues, and therefore, the usage of microbubbles to increase the oxygen levels higher than the tissue-level partial pressure has been investigated by many researchers. Microbubbles can be injected intravenously as a source of oxygen and monitored through ultrasound due to their inherent echogenicity. Microbubbles are also being investigated for various targeted drug delivery applications. In present research, oxygen containing lipid-shelled microbubbles have been synthesized using sonication method. For the characterization of the microbubbles, optical and fluorescence microscopy have been used. Microbubbles were injected in partially deoxygenated water and the resultant increase in the oxygen level of water was measured using a dissolved oxygen sensor. In-vitro experiments were performed to observe and determine the impact of microbubbles on the reversal of hypoxia in the cancer cells. We propose that this method will be useful for the reversal of hypoxia in the cancerous tissues. |
