제목 The Effect of PUA Structure for Contrast Ratio of Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC)
초록 Polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC), fabricated with one of several phase separation method, contains a dispersion of micrometer size or submicron size liquid crystal droplet dispersed in a polymer matrix. PDLC film has considerable potential for use in device requiring shuttered or modulated light. To use of these applications, PDLC films are needed to have high contrast ratio.
Refractive index is the key parameter of initial transmittance and contrast ratio. By changing the structure of isocyanate and crosslinking density, we obtained differential PUA structure of polymer matrix. These matrices have differential refractive index and morphology. The PDLC film which is the highest difference in refractive index with LC has the highest contrast ratio (CR=75.2). To measure the various properties in PDLC, we measured refractive index by ABBE refractor, transmittance dependent on voltage, and response time. And the morphology measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
