There are increasing demands for eco-friendly production of polyamide type thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) which have a wide range of applications because of their good thermal stability, and excellent chemical and hydrolytic resistance. Compared to the conventional synthesis using petrochemicals, the synthesis of monomers for TPEs from natural resources would be a good solution for the era of green chemistry. We selected the castor oil that can be converted to undecylenic acid by pyrolysis process. Synthesis of both C-10 and C-11 monomers for TPEs will be presented from ozonolysis of castor undecylenic acid. For C-11 monomers, we have employed a novel divergent strategy, which could lead to both the C-11 diacid and the C-11 amino acid monomers from the common intermediate. |
