Mineralization of Nano-Assemblies for Cancer Therapy and Imaging |

The controlled deposition of biocompatible inorganic minerals on self-assembled nanostructures has broadened the chance of generating new functional nanoparticles for delivery of bioactive agents and molecular imaging. In recent years, we have focused on the biomimetic mineralization to develop the hybrid nanoparticles for intracellular drug delivery and ultrasound imaging. Herein, we describe first the smart nanoparticles based on nanotemplate-based calcium phosphate (CaP) mineralization using drug-loaded polymer micelles or mesoporous silica nanoparticles as nanotemplates. In a second topic, we will focus on the gas-generating mineralized nanoparticles (GGMNPs) that can be used as an ultrasound (US) contrast agent. The mineralization of various templates may provide a platform technology for the generation of many high-performance nanoparticle systems for theragnostic applications. |
