Thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers (TLCPs) have been considered as one of the high-performance engineering plastics because of their good mechanical properties, thermal endurance, and chemical stability. It is expected that the addition of inorganic filler into TLCPs can reduce the raw material cost and improve the mechanical properties. However, it causes an increase of viscosity for the composites and leads to difficulties during processing of the composites. In this research, the glass fiber-filled TLCPs and the TLCP/glass fiber/fumed silica composites were prepared by a melt blending process to investigate their processability and mechanical properties. The glass fiber-filled TLCPs were exhibited high values of torque with increasing glass fiber. However, the TLCP/glass fiber/fumed silica composites were exhibited low values of torque with increasing fumed silica contents, and these composites were exhibited higher mechanical properties than the glass fiber-filled TLCPs. |
