Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) have the potential for application as engineering materials. TPEs have been reinforced by stiff fillers such as carbon black, carbon fiber and carbon nanotube (CNT) in order to provide increased stiffness and strength, as well as electrical conductivity. The outstanding properties of CNTs have generated scientific and technical interests in the development of CNTs-filled TPEs composites. However, it is clear that enhanced properties will be achieved through well dispersed CNTs in TPEs matrix. In this study, we have fabricated CNTs-filled TPEs composites using a compatibilizer as dispersing agents of CNTs. Shear mixing has been used to produce a homogeneous dispersion of nanotubes and extrusion. We are investigating the effect of CNTs on mechanical and electrical behavior of CNTs-filled TPEs composites. |
