Recently, magnetic silica-hydrogel polymer nanocomposites have attracted a great deal of attention in biomedical fields because of their potential application to controlled drug delivery, bio-imaging, and magnetic separation. These nanocomposites were fabricated by two steps; (1) core-shell magnetic nanoparticles with different silica shell layer was synthesized by the sol-gel reaction of citrate-stabilized magnetites (70~80 nm) with different amounts of silicon alkoxide, (2) the magnetic silica nanospheres were functionalized by 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate, followed by the further encapsulation of PNIPAM hydrogel shell. |
