We investigate the effect of pentacene as the interfacial buffer layer on the performance of polymer solar cells based on regioregular poly-(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and [6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) blend. High hole mobility and large absorption coefficient in crystalline thin films of pentacene enables the use of thick layers, leading to improved charge transport and absorption. Devices obtained from the chlorobenzene shows better performance than obtained from the 1,2-dichlorobenzene and the reason of this behavior is discussed. The power conversion efficiency of the devices under AM1.5G solar illumination at 100mW/cm2 is improved to 1.5%, up from 0.8%. |
