We prepared anti-corrosive WPUs containing amino-quinone diol and new anti-corrosive diol with various polyol, DMPA, and IPDI, depending on the types of polyols and the molar ratios of each monomer. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 3h in acetone and then TEA was added and finally water was added to obtain waterborne polyurethanes. The coating formulations were prepared by mixing commercially available surface treatment agent with anti-corrosive WPUs. The contents of anti-corrosive WPUs were varied from 0.6 to 1 wt%. Coating formulations were coated on the galvanized steel using bar-coater, and thermally cured. Anti-corrosive WPUs containing amino-quinone diol exhibited good protection of galvanized steel against corrosion, but those containing new diol WPUs showed better than amino-quinone diol. The coatings having anti-corrosive WPUs exhibited much improved anti-corrosion properties from the salt spray test and the results from each coating will be further discussed. |
