Tailoring Cut of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes with Sonication Process |

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) were synthesized by CVD method at different temperatures and they were treated by high power sonication method. We investigated the effect of synthesis condition (i.e.temperature) on the morphological properties of MWNTs after high power sonication process. The length distribution of MWNTs was investigated by SEM, TEM and chromatographic methods. We controlled the sonication time and tried to optimize the cutting process by pre-treatment method to produce MWNTs with proper length distribution depending on the application fields of MWNT/polymer composites. Additionally, thermal stability analysis was performed by TGA and the relationships between MWNT length distribution and total surface area was found by BET surface analysis. |
