제목 Structure development and orientation of syndiotactic polystyrene
초록 A study of the structure development and orientation of syndiotactic polystyrene are presented. Highly stereo-regular syndiotactic polystyrene(s-PS) synthesized by metallocene catalyst has been commercialized recently. It is known as semi-crystalline material, and has been found in various crystalline forms.
We investigated crystallization kinetics of s-PS. s-PS was found to have faster crystallization rate compared to the isotactic polystyrene(i-PS), and slower crystallization rate compared to isotactic polypropylene.
We produced film by cast film extrusion followed by film stretching. We investigated structure development in the film by DSC and wide angle x-ray diffraction. s-PS found to be developed mesomorphic structure at low level of stretching and crystalline structure at high level of stretching.
Pole figures of the uniaxially stretched s-PS films show that the (110) reflection of the sample showed axial symmetry along the film machine direction, and its intensity was increased as the stretching ratio increased. This indicates that the crystallographic c-axis tends to orient in the film machine direction.
