Hierarchical superstructures can be simultaneously controlled during the photo-polymerization of disc-shaped reactive mesogen. To realize this concept, a programmed triphenylene-based discotic RM (abbreviated as HATP) was designed and synthesized. Phase behaviors and structures of HAPT were characterized by the combined techniques of thermal, scattering, and microscopic analyses. On the basis of experimental results, the long axis of self-assembled column in the striped walls is perpendicular to the surface alignment direction. The results indicated that the morphological anisotropy were induced by the anisotropic diffusion of HAPT and the orientation of optic axis was determined by the transverse face-to-face stacking of HAPT.
