Chitosan (poly-(D)glucosamine) is a commonly used natural biopolymer in biomedical area as having biocompatible properties. Previous studies reported that chitosan is poorly electrospinnable. Often adding polyethylenen oxide (PEO) makes electrospinning much easier. Herein, to make hydrogel nanofibers, a solution consisting chitosan, PEGDA and UV initiator was prepared and electrospun. By adjusting the volume ratios of the three components, an optimum condition for the preparation of hydrogel nanofibers was obtained. Fiber morphology of 100~200 nm diameter was confirmed by scanning electron micrographs. The matrix was then crosslinked by UV radiation, which was confirmed by FT-IR. A silver nitrate aq solution was dropped onto hydrogel nanofibers for confined crystallization, and silver successfully crystallized by passing this soaked hydrogel mat though an 160 ℃ ethylene glycol bath. More particles on fiber surfaces seem to result, as increasing the concentration of silver nitrate solution. This hydrogel matrix can be used for confined crystallization of various inorganic materials for future nanomaterials development. |
