Silica-coated graphite flakes with physical adsorption of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) having high electrical resistivity were compounded with ethylene acrylic elastomer (EAE, VAMAC® G, DuPontTM) in order to investigate its thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity performances. Each silica layer plays as an electrical insulating role to screen out electric currents between graphite flakes. In addition, the silanol groups of silica layers on graphite would have a good affinity with polymers containing hydrophilic sites in their structures, resulting in the silica-coated graphite/EAE composites with high thermal conductivity as well as enhanced mechanical properties. This study mainly concentrates on the thermal conductivity performance and the electrical insulating effect of silica-coated graphite in EAE. |
