Ferroelectric thin films of PVDF-organically modified silicate were prepared on indium-tin oxide coated glass through heat controlled spin coating, at 60 oC, using N,N-dimethylacetamide, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and N-methylpyrrolidone, as solvents. The solvents with lower boiling point favored the formation of thicker films with smooth texture. The metal-ferroelectric-metal capacitors with gold top electrode exhibited typical P-E curves, irrespective of solvents used. Regardless of appreciable difference in thickness, all films showed coercive field of about 1.4 MV/cm and remanent polarization of about 8.0C/cm2, when the electric filed is applied up to 6.5 MV/cm. Further, the solvent induced changes in morphology and surface topography of films will be discussed through FE-SEM and AFM, respectively.
