초록 | A perifusion model for insulin secretion to glucose stimulation in the microencapsulated islets was developed. The model indicates that the behavior of insulin concentration depends on the first order delays in response, and the mass flow rates of glucose and insulin across the membrane. Although the time of the first order delay (T1) to approach the plateau level was longest among the time factors, the effect of the mass transport of insulin across agarose hydrogel had larger influence with increasing membrane thickness. The insulin concentration in the perfusate compartment for microencapsulated islets at a steady state depends on T1, the coefficient for proportional action, glucose concentration, the number of islet and perfusate flow rate without regard to the thickness of hydrogel. This model will be better understand the performance of a bioartificial pancreas so as to serve as a guide in designing a function of a BAP. |
