Molecular self-assembly has become one of the most intensive areas of research in recent years. This is in part due to its vast potential to be used in many industrial and biomaterials applications. For the biomaterials applications of the self-assembled supramolecular nano-objects, the exterior of the objects should be coated with bioactive molecules to construct functional materials. Since the intrinsic nature of self-assembly in a building-up of higher-order structure by the repetitive interactions of monomeric building blocks, self-assembled structures are excellent platforms for displaying multivalent bioactive molecules. Among many bioactive molecules, coating of the nano-objects with carbohydrates and functional peptides gives them unique opportunities to explore myriads of biological events that they mediate. |
