POSS modified hyperbranched acrylate (POSS-HBA), which was obtained by thiol-acrylate addition reaction of a mercaptopropyllsobutyl POSS (POSS-SH) with hyperbranched polymer having acrylate groups at the ends, was incorporated into UV-curable polyurethane diacrylate (PUDA). And, the effect of POSS modified HBA on mechanical properties, thermal stability and surface properties of the UV-cured coatings was investigated. DMA and TGA analysis revealed that upon addtion of small amount of the POSS modified HBA, the UV cured PUDA showed improved increase in storage modulus as well as improved thermal stability. Further, the POSS-HBA modified PUDA coating showed increased surface hydrophobicity arising from surface enrichment of the POSS, which was confirmed by XPS and AFM analysis. |
