Chlorodifluoromethane (CHClF2, R22) is a raw material for the manufacturing of tetrafluoroethylene (C2F4, TFE). The most widely used process for the commercial production of TFE is the direct pyrolysis of R22. In this works, the pyrolysis of R22 over Cu-promoted aluminum based catalysts was investigated. The catalytic activities over prepared catalysts were compared with those over a non-catalytic pyrolysis. It was found that TFE was produced as a main product, and trifluoromethane (CHF3, R23) and trifluoroethylene (CF2CHF, TrFE) were formed as minor products in the catalytic and non-catalytic pyrolysis of R22. |
