Chromatographic methods are often used as a dynamic method to determine isotherm parameters, whereas it is not useful for high concentration of strong adsorbates, and the gas velocity change due to adsorption in the column is neglected. Therefore the operating conditions of chromatography is much different from those of bulk gas separation process such as oxygen production from air. In this study, adsorption isotherm of nitrogen and oxygen on several zeolites were measured by volumetric method. The equilibrium of these gases on zeolite were well expressed by Langmuir equation, and the equilibrium constants were expressed as a function of temperature between 298K and 333K. Also breakthrough experiments were carried out on fixed bed packed with the same adsorbents. Langmuir constants were obtained by local equilibrium theory which derives relationships between Langmuir constants, gas velocity, solute concentration, and the solute wave movement velocity. The equilibrium constants obtained by two different methods were compared. |
