A comparative study of sulfonation and characterization of commercial Victrex® PEEK was conducted. The degree of sulfonated of PEEK increase with increasing reaction temperatures. The properties of SPEEK membranes were investigated mechanical properties. The ionic modulus of the SPEEK membranes increases with increasing degree of sulfonic acid groups. This result revealed that the SPEEK membranes become more degree of ionic aggregates with increasing sulfonic acid contents. In the case of the loss tangent peaks, as the amount of sulfonic acid groups increasing, the -relaxation peak shifts to higher temperatures, indicating that the ionic domain region becomes larger with increasing ionic contents. It is found that with increasing sulfonic acid groups contents, the γrelaxation and /relaxation peaks shift to lower temperatures. The morphology study also indicated that the SPEEK membranes become more aggregates with increasing sulfonic acid groups. |
