The Effect of Pre-milling Process and Excess Na,Li on the Microstructure and Dielectric/Piezoelectric Properties of Nano-sized 0.96[(K0.48Na0.52+x)NbO3]-0.04[Li1+ySbO3] |

To date, the most widely used piezoelectrics belong to the lead zirconate titanate (PZT) family because of its superior piezoelectric properties. However, the hazardous lead content present raises serious environmental concerns. Therefore, there has been a growing interest in developing alternative lead-free piezoelectric materials that can eventually replace the current lead-based ones. Sodium potassium niobate (abbreviated as NKN) based ceramics were considered as an environment-friendly alternative for a lead based piezoelectric system. 0.96[K0.48Na(0.52+x)NbO3]-0.04[Li(1+y)SbO3] where x+y=0.01 (abbreviated as NKN-LS) ceramics were synthesized by mixed oxide processes. To investigate the effects of the excess Na and Li on the properties of NKN ceramics, the dielectric and the piezoelectric properties of sintered specimens fabricated were evaluated. It was found that the properties of NKN ceramics greatly influenced by the excessive amount of Na and Li. |
