Redox flow battery has attracted much interest as a large-scale energy storage technology in recent years. Because it has advantages of the energy efficiency, long life-cycle and low costs compared with other technologies. However, the crossover of bromine are the limitation of the commercialization of membranes for zinc-bromine redox flow battery. In this study, Nafion/silica hybrid membranes were prepared by the solution blending with various silica content. They will be employed as the separator for zinc-bromine redox flow battery. The effects of silica contents and morphology were investigated by SEM, UTM and LCR meter. Physico-chemical properties are characterized by IEC, water uptake and conductivity. The bromine permeability of the membrane was measured with the UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The silica nanoparticles might reduce the crossover of bromine and enhance the mechanical properties of membrane. |
