Developing effective and earth-abundant electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is critical for the commercialization of a water splitting system. It has recently been proposed that the OER activity of carbon nanostructure can be enhanced by forming a flower-like morphology. In this work, we present a simple synthetic route for the preparation of flower-like carbon nanostructure with high performance OER activity. This flower-like carbon nanostructure (FLC) grown uniformly on a nickel support derived from various carbon precursor through the simple hydrothermal method (Multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNTs), carbon nano fiber (CNF), graphite). The FLC catalyst using the MWCNTs precursor shows the more excellent OER catalytic properties than those of CNF and graphite precursor. This catalyst shows superior OER catalytic performance with a current density of 10mAcm-2 at small over potential of 320 mV, a low Tafel slope about 30 mVdec-1 by Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV), and excellent stability more than 10 hours in alkaline media. |
