In order to maximize the productivity of pilot scale cultivation, we have cultured Neochloris oleoabundans in different growth conditions to optimize the growth of microalgae for the outdoor culture, As a result, we found that nitrate was the most effective nitrogen source for the growth compared to urea or ammonium. Moreover, we found the appropriate light intensity for each stage of the growth process; under 100 uE·m-2s-1 for the initiation stage, under 200 uE·m-2s-1 for before the induction stage, and over 200 uE·m-2s-1 for after the induction. Also, we have included the acclimation step before the growth where the cells were cultured in the condition of fuel gas containing 21ppm of NOx mixed with air in 1:1(v/v) ratio until the O.D.680 reached 0.3 indicating 100% fuel gas adaption. This step has significantly improved the growth rate and achieved high fatty acid production. |
