Nanostructures of Star-shaped Polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) Copolymer |

Star-shaped polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer (PS-b-PMMA) was synthesized by using α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) as a core of the star-shape. Hydroxyl groups in the α-CD were substituted with bromine by esterification and it was used for atom transfer radical polymerization. We found that the number of bromine substituted arms per one α-CD was higher than 16 measured by nuclear magnetic resonance and Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization. We controlled the molecular weight and block compositions of block copolymer. Those block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance. Morphology of Star-shpaed block copolymer was characterized by TEM and small angle X-ray scattering. We could find diverse nanostructures of star-shaped block copolymer. |
