Boron is a weakly-ionized species, which is hard to be removed completely by conventional water filtration processes for ultrapure water, such as ion exchange, reverse osmosis technologies. Alternatively, polymer based chelating agents are of great interest for boron removal due to their high boron adsorption capacity, provided by multiple hydroxyl groups. For multiple functional groups, glycidyl methacrylate(GMA) was introduced onto the surface of porous polymer beads via ATRP in the presence of divinylbenzene (DVB) as a crosslinking agent. Effect of crosslinking agent on the grafting yield and the morphological changes was investigated. Boron adsorption capacity of the fuctionalized beads was studied in therms of their grafting yield and porosity. |
