Influence of tailored degree of substitution on hyaluronic acid hydrogels properties |

Hyaluronic acid (HyA) concentration and molecular weight have been correlated with the development of certain pathological conditions and can be used as diagnostic markers for disease. HyA allowed attachment of a wide variety of cell types and connected a wide variety of growth factors. The properties of HyA hydrogels having a broad range of methacrylation are presented. Increasing solubility of glycidyl methacrylate (GM) in a co-solvent mixture during the methacrylation of HyA with GM was shown to produce photopolymerizable HyAGM conjugates with various degree of methacrylation. 1H NMR spectroscopy was used to verify the methacrylation reaction on HyA. These novel GMHA hydrogels are suitable for using in a variety of woundhealing applications. |
