Recently, many polymer systems have been investigated as thermo- and pH-responsive hydrogel for biomedical applications. However, most are non-biodegradable and toxic, which has limited their use in the biomaterial. Polyaspartamides(PHEAs) are synthetic water-soluble polymer with protein-like structure, and have been interestingly explored in the biomedical fields because it is biodegradable, biocompatible and non-toxic. Here, we result the synthesis of novel amphiphilic PHEA derivatives, and the crosslinked gels with dual-responsive, i.e., thermo- and pH-responsive, properties were characterized. The LCST of the copolymer in an aqueous solution was varied by changing both the graft composition and pH. The crosslinked gels showed a response behavior in the degree of swelling and morphology of porous structures changing by both temperature and pH. Also, a preliminary result on the hydrolytic degradation of the hydrogel will be discussed. |
