Highly Efficient FTO-Free Counter Electrode Based on Low-Pt-Amount Carbon Nanosheets for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells |

Highly efficient Fluorine doped tin Oxide (FTO)-free counter electrodes (CEs) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are developed using low-Pt-amount carbon nanosheets (CNS). The CNS was choose for its high conductivity (sheet resistance of ~40 Ohm/sq) which is close to the conductivity properties of FTO (sheet resistance of ~18 Ohm/sq), which make FTO-Free counter electrode become more feasible, thus potentially cut the production cost of DSSCs. The moderate electrocatalytic activity of CNS was improved by doping with low amount of platinum catalyst. The amount of Pt catalyst on CNS was varied and the electrocatalytic activity, electrical properties, chemical structure and their effect on the performance of the corresponding DSSCs are investigated. The synergetic effect between CNS and low amount of platinum shows comparable electrocatalytic activity to that of high (conventional) Pt-doped/FTO-CEs thus leading to high efficiency of DSSCs. |
